Gregory “Buddy” Howell once dreamed like the rest of us. Now, he can call himself a Super Bowl Champion. It certainly wasn’t an easy road for Buddy Howell before he landed with the Los Angeles Rams and earned that championship ring.
The 26-year-old running back was a standout for Florida Atlantic, playing 39 games with 16 starts. The proud Fan Arch athlete recorded 463 carries for 2,424 yards and 22 touchdowns in his collegiate career.
Despite turning some heads with his play, it wasn’t enough for NFL teams to give him a shot in the 2018 NFL Draft, as Buddy Howell went undrafted.
Not to be deterred by that setback, Buddy Howell focused on what he can control and continued working on his game. Soon enough, the Miami Dolphins came calling and gave him a shot as a practice player.
While that gig in South Beach didn’t last long, it gave Buddy Howell some much-needed knowledge about the ins and outs of being a pro in the NFL.
The hunger and work ethic were always there, Buddy Howell just needed a chance. The Houston Texans claimed him off waivers soon enough, but he still had to earn every second of playing time.
Despite the limited minutes he got, Buddy Howell made sure they all counted. The Texans appreciated his hard work and gave him a contract extension in 2021, but was waived months later/
But when one door closes, another one opens. The Los Angeles Rams needed some bodies on their practice roster and brought in Buddy Howell. The Former Atlantic Owl once again proved himself and clawed his way to the Rams’ stacked active roster.
It was certainly a challenge for Buddy Howell to crack the Rams’ deep rotation, but he made the most of his opportunities. Buddy Howell recently etched his name in the history books, winning a ring at Super Bowl LVI after the Rams edged the Cincinnati Bengals.
