What is the NCAA transfer portal?
The college football season may be coming to a close, but there's still a lot of action going down, primarily in the transfer portal.
For those unfamiliar, the NCAA transfer portal is an online database launched back in 2018 that was meant to simplify the process of student-athletes transferring schools.
Back in the old days, it took a lot of work to get information about transfers. Athletes had to ask coaches for permission to talk to other schools, then find ways to make it known to more schools that they were looking to transfer.
And on the other side, coaches couldn't readily know which athletes were available for transfer and often had to use their connections or relied on referrals to find them.
But with the transfer portal, both athletes and coaches alike now have a readily available online resource that they can use to facilitate transfers more easily.
In 2021, the NCAA adopted the new "one-time transfer" rule that will allow athletes to transfer without sitting out a year in residence, which made transfers even more prevalent.
Along with the NIL rule, the transfer portal has been a big positive for student-athletes, who have now been given a bit more power and control over their future.
If a student-athlete wants to transfer, they can simply enter their names into the transfer portal. That makes it simpler for coaches from other schools to search and contact them to discuss the potential transfer.
A number of Fan Arch college football student-athletes have already taken advantage of the transfer portal at the end of the 2022 season. The likes of Traeshon Holden, Allan Haye Jr. and Davonte Brown have all switched schools, and there will likely be more to follow.
But regardless of which school they play for moving forward, they will still have some fantastic merch that can be found on Fan Arch. Check out your favorite Fan Arch athlete's complete collection, many of which feature fine-looking T-shirts, hoodies, and sweatshirts with their own unique designs.
