Michael Cherry just keeps on winning
Following his gold medal win in Tokyo, American track and field superstar
Michael Cherry continues to rake in the medals.
Winning the Diamond League was just cherry on the top (pun intended) for the
26-year-old New York native.
Cherry took home the Diamond League Trophy in the men’s 400, joining
Quanera Hayes, Devon Allen, Fred Kerley, Kenny Bednarek, and Valarie Allman.
It wasn’t an easy victory either for Cherry, as he practically had to dive to the
finish line just to slightly edge Grenada’s Kirani James.
The win was sweet revenge for Cherry, after James beat him for the bronze last
month.
“It was a hard race,” Cherry said. “Kirani always gives me a battle.”
Cherry has been absolutely dominant this year, finishing 14 of his 15 races this
season in under 45 seconds. Aside from the bragging rights over his fierce rival James, he even took home a cool $30,000 in prize money.
