The Detroit Lions are not have a very good season. They are 4-7 on the year and are on course for their fifth straight losing season.
But despite another disappointing campaign, Austin Bryant has continued to be an absolute wrecking force for the Lions.
The fourth-year edge rusher out of Clemson came into the season as a potential breakout candidate. After recording 4.5 sacks last season, Austin Bryant had three sacks in a preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts.
Lions head coach Dan Campbell was all praise for Austin Bryant's all-out mindset when he plays, which makes him so tough to go up against.
“Listen, he’s always been all out, all the time and that’s what I appreciate about him,” head coach Dan Campbell said. “That was one of the first things I noticed about him -- (defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn) and myself -- when I was watching film when I took this job. I was like, ‘Who is this guy? He goes in the game and just goes all out.’ And I know this: If you’re talking about a defense, man, that’s got to be the starting point.”
After a somewhat slow start to the season, Austin Bryant is finally beginning to play the way many had expected. After missing Weeks 9 and 10, he returned and got his first QB hit of the season in a win over the New York Giants. He then added two more in a narrow defeat to the Buffalo Bills.
Austin Bryant played 51% of defensive snaps against the Bills, his second-highest total of the season. This could very well be the start of a strong end to the season for the Lions' wrecking force, who is hoping to earn a new contract this offseason.
