Lauren Murphy's road to another title shot starts with Miesha Tate at UFC 276
Lauren Murphy's road to another title shot starts wit...
Lauren Murphy may have stumbled, but don’t expect her to stay down. Her quest for UFC gold may have hit a roadblock, but we know she’ll find a way. She’ll make her own path.
That road starts against Miesha Tate.
UFC 276 is as stacked as it gets, featuring title defenses from UFC Middleweight champion Israel Adesanya and UFC Featherweight king Alexander Volkanovski.
Following her four-round defeat to reigning Women’s Flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko, no.3 ranked contender Lauren Murphy makes her way back to the Octagon to welcome Miesha Tate in the UFC’s 125-lb. division.
A win over a former champion like Tate, of course, puts Lauren Murphy’s name right back on the shortlist of contenders for Valentina Shevchenko.
After going 8-3 in her first 11 UFC bouts, Lauren Murphy got the green light to face perhaps the most dangerous female fighter in the world right now as the co-main event of UFC 266 last year.
While “Lucky” fought valiantly, she was outclassed by the dominant champion and suffered a TKO loss in round 4. Well, Shevchenko is an absolute killer and there’s no shame in losing to a champion like her. Plus, it was a valuable learning experience for Lauren Murphy. The Fan Arch athlete now understands the facets of her game that she needs to work on.
As her in-ring monicker suggests, Lauren Murphy is not just lucky, she also worked extremely hard to get where she is right now. Success does come when preparation meets opportunity, and Lauren Murphy will climb her way back up to get another crack at Shevchenko.

Lauren Murphy currently holds a 15-5 slate in her MMA career, with 8 of those wins coming by knockout. She will face another high-profile opponent for the second-straight time in Miesha Tate.
Shevchenko may have snapped her five-fifth winning streak, but Lauren Murphy will no doubt look to start a new one against Cupcake.
Lauren Murphy and Miesha Tate were originally booked to fight last March, but were moved to UFC 276 for unknown reasons.
While Lauren Murphy’s star power might not be as strong as Tate’s, she also has quite the resume as well. The 38-year-old fighter is a former Alaska Cage Fighting and Invicta FC bantamweight champion before moving to the UFC in 2014.
Some Vegas oddsmakers, meanwhile, already have Lauren Murphy as a +140 underdog against Tate. Sure, Miesha is a former Bantamweight champion but we don’t know for sure how her body will respond to the weight cut.
Lauren Murphy, on the other hand, would simply love to prove her doubters wrong. Just wait and see. Lauren Murphy’s title aspirations are far from over.
