Florida State football is back
Florida State football has been far from the program that had dominated the ACC for decades. After years of remarkable success under the great Bobby Bowden, which was then continued by Jimbo Fisher, the Seminoles have been in the midst of their longest stretch of mediocrity in some time.
But those days may very well be over because Florida State football is on the way back up!
In his third year in charge, head coach Mike Norvell is finally starting to turn things around in Tallahassee. After three straight competitive defeats against ranked teams, including a close 34-28 defeat to No. 4-ranked Clemson, FSU delivered a dominant 41-16 win over Georgia Tech to improve to 5-3 on the season.
Junior quarterback Jordan Travis had a career day with 396 passing yards and 3 touchdowns against the Yellow Jackets. Meanwhile, sophomore running back Lawrance Toafili had a huge performance as he rushed for 70 yards and a touchdown and added 84 receiving yards on five catches, including a 62-yard touchdown.
After a slow start, Lawrance Toafili is finally beginning to turn the corner with his production; he has provided 267 yards from scrimmage on 35 touches over his last two games against Clemson and Georgia Tech.
But perhaps the biggest reason to be high on the Seminoles’ resurgence is their defense. The unit led by Jammie Robinson, Kalen DeLoach, Tatum Bethune and Akeem Dent showed promising signs when they kept the team in the games against Wake Forest, NC State, and Clemson, and they were finally able to flex their defensive muscles against Georgia Tech.
With the defensive stars finally coming into their own, Jordan Travis continuing to grow as a quarterback, and the electrifying sophomore Lawrance Toafili starting to come into his own, there is much to be excited about the Noles, who look ready to get back to the big time.
