Disregarding Lauren Murphy is a bad choice, just ask Mies...
In the build-up heading to UFC on ABC 3, it seemed like all Miesha Tate did was talk about fighting UFC Women’s Flyweight champion, Valentina Shevchenko. She completely disregarded her opponent Lauren Murphy. That was a bad idea.
Being the professional that she is, Lauren Murphy didn’t take the disrespect personally and simply let her fighting do the talking. The Fan Arch athlete obliterated the former UFC Women’s Bantamweight champion. Lucky pieced her up good!
Given Tate’s status as a former champion who is dropping to a lower weight class, oddsmakers had her as the favorite against Lauren Murphy. Well, let’s just say Lauren Murphy made those oddsmakers eat crow.
It wasn’t even close. Lauren Murphy dominated every round and left Tate battered and bruised, running away with a convincing 30-27, 30-27, and 29-28 unanimous decision victory.
Lauren Murphy set the tone early, going forward with an aggressive combination of punches and much-improved takedown defense. The flat-footed Tate tried to stay in the fight with takedown and clinch attempts but was thwarted everyone by Lucky.
Lauren Murphy even caught Tate napping and scored a takedown of her own to end the first round. Round 2 was more of the same, as Lauren Murphy bloodied Tate with some ferocious ground and pound, including a clean shot that might have damaged Tate’s orbital bone.
Lauren Murphy kept her foot on the gas pedal in the final round and continued battering Tate until the final bell.La coriace "𝙇𝙪𝙘𝙠𝙮" @LaurenMurphyMMA ne mise jamais sur la chance!

The usually reserved Lauren Murphy was thrilled post-fight and shared how confident she was entering the fight.
“There’s been big victories that I’ve had where I’m almost in disbelief, like, ‘Oh, I can’t believe I won that. That’s f*cking amazing,'” she said. “And right now, I feel like, ‘Yeah, I won that because I’m a bada*s. I’m a bad motherf*cker. I should’ve (won that).’ I have the ability to win fights like that, and I’m right where I belong.'”
“A lot of stuff that we did in practice happened tonight, and it just feels good to come back and get a win over a former champion,” Murphy added. “Nobody is going to walk over me in this division. … When I’m healthy and focused, I’m a force.”
