The Charlotte Hornets recently splashed the cash on Kelly Oubre Jr., signing the 6-foot-7 swingman to a two-year, $26 million deal in free agency. Oubre now parts ways with the Golden State Warriors after just one season, but it looks like he made quite an impact on now-former teammate Stephen Curry.

According to Oubre himself, the former back-to-back MVP dropped some words of wisdom on him soon after Curry learned about his move to the Hornets. (h/t Jonathan M Alexander of The Charlotte Observer):

“Kelly Oubre said Steph Curry reached out to him after he signed with the Hornets. He recommended he be himself and gave him some encouraging word,” Alexander wrote.

Prior to Oubre’s decision to sign with Charlotte, there were rumors of a possible extension with the Warriors. In the end, however, Golden State was unable (or unwilling?) to match the Hornets’ massive offer for Oubre, and he is now headed to Charlotte to link up with reigning Rookie of the Year LaMelo Ball.

While Oubre did not provide the details of Curry’s parting message, it’s safe to assume that these two formed quite a bond as teammates. Oubre’s run with the Warriors may have been short-lived, but it is clear that he leaves the organization with nothing but fond memories.

Now looking forward to a fresh start, Oubre should provide the Hornets with some much-needed firepower from the wing this coming season. Charlotte will be looking to contend for a playoff spot next year, and Oubre could be a key piece to their success.
