Are the Lakers too old to win a Championship?
In recent years the Los Angeles Lakers have went from one of the youngest teams in the NBA with the likes young stars Kyle Kuzma, Lonzo Ball and Brandon Ingram to now having the average age of their starting lineup at over 30 years old.
In 2020, LeBron James was able to join the Lakers and while healthy with the help of Anthony Davis take the team to NBA Finals defeating the Miami Heat. After a year of such bliss for the King, hard times had hit with team that could never seem to be healthy and would be out of the NBA playoffs before the Finals. After a year filled with defeat LeBron James has went on a recruitment spree working to bring in veteran talent from around the league to return the dominance the team had in 2020.
In this offseason so far the Lakers have brought in the following talent:
Dwight Howard , Carmelo Anthony , Wayne Ellington, Trevor Ariza, Kent Bazemore, Malik Monk, Kendrick Nunn.
the one thing almost all these players have in common besides Monk and Nunn is that they are over the age of 30 years old. To go along with these key pieces the Lakers have brought in the triple-double king himself Russell Westbrook to be the final piece to their new "Big Three".
While from the outside it seems that this team could be too old to withstand a NBA season, with the recent addition of Kendrick Nunn and Monk who will be solid role players for the team and Russell Westbrook who seems to manage to always stay healthy during the regular it is likely we will see this team in the NBA Finals. One thing we no for certain after the 2021 season is that nothing is a lock and that we should be in for a exciting 2022 NBA Season.
