As is the case on the heels of any big NBA playoff series, after the Brooklyn Nets were eliminated by the Milwaukee Bucks in the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals in the 2021 NBA Playoffs, many were quick to give their opinion on how the result shook up the NBA hierarchy.

After all, though the Nets came up short, Kevin Durant was incredible during the series, averaging a whopping 35.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 5.4 assists per game on an efficient 49.7% from the field. Had this performance finally put allowed him to surpass LeBron James in the NBA hierarchy and be widely regarded as the best player in the world?

NBA hall of famer and 6-time champion wasn’t too sure, arguing that while KD might have the edge over LeBron in terms of offensive prowess and ability, his inability to galvanize his teammates and conserve his energy is why he ultimately came up short.

According to Pippen, “KD can score better than LeBron, but has he surpassed LeBron? Nah… Lebron would’ve figured out how to beat them and wouldn’t have been exhausted”

In true Kevin Durant fashion, upon seeing Pippen’s comments, he immediately lashed back out at the former Bulls star, referencing arguably the lowest point of Pippen’s career in which he had a flare up with his coach and refused to enter a game in its final seconds.
